Mental health services, education, and support to meet you wherever you are in life.

My name is Suzette and I’ve been a licensed professional counselor since 1996.

Therapy is more than just talking about your thoughts and feelings.

We talk to people all the time and things don’t change. So what makes therapeutic relationships and conversations different? Lasting change requires several fundamental things: relational safety AND not being alone while exploring and feeling the hard stuff – whether it’s from the past, the present, or even the future.

When we can fully show up as ourselves in whatever way/shape/form and be seen, accepted, and understood, we can move beyond stuckness and try new ways of being, internally and in the world around us.

A Little About Me

Background:

I’ve been a “professional helper” since I was a teen. I started with babysitting, then worked with kids in camps and summer programs, and then case management and therapy in community mental health, residential settings, and adoption/foster care.

Eventually I discovered I loved working with people of all ages and seeing the growth and development we can all achieve with the right support, skills, and knowledge about how we operate as human beings, how our systems respond to safety and threat, how to overcome obstacles, and what we need to thrive.

We are all built to move towards growth and health if the conditions are right. I see my job as coach, guide, teacher, and a safe place to practice what your body and mind already knows how to do naturally.

Training & Experience:

My graduate school education was in counseling psychology and family systems, which led to a lifelong love of learning. I went on to get additional training in attachment and relational therapies, low and high ROPES and experiential services, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Polyvagal theory and practice.

I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, residential, and wilderness settings with children, adolescents, and adults, including military veterans, foster and adoptive children/families, and a whole variety of people with different life challenges and goals.

Services

I offer virtual therapy services for individuals, couples, parent/child/dyads, and families via a secure and confidential video platform.

I also offer more intensive experiences than a single therapy hour, which are designed collaboratively to meet your needs as an individual, couple, family, or group.

In addition, I enjoy facilitating group retreats for therapeutic personal growth or just for recreational goals. These can be arranged at any number of locations and may include partnering with co-therapists for supplemental services such as equine therapy, ROPES/teambuilding experiences, wilderness/nature based programming, and psychoeducational group learning and practice.

I also love to provide outreach and education to community members, social service agency staff, teachers, and employee assistance programs. Making the sometimes mystical or confusing aspects of emotional and mental health understandable and accessible along with practical applications and fun is a personal passion.

Work With Me

If you decide to work with me, you’ll find that I strive to be responsive and not formulaic as we work together to help you achieve your goals.

I have years of experience, but don’t just rest on old understandings of the human mind and body. I am constantly challenging myself to learn, not just from the field of psychology, but from all areas where we can better understand our brain, body, mind, and the essence of who we are. I believe safety is created with clear and compassionate communication, purpose, and a sense of humor.
